BBC The Traitors' Kieran addresses ‘cheating claims’ after Wilf ‘parting gift’ comment

BBC The Traitors star Kieran Tompsett addressed claims that he had cheated in the final episode of the show, revealing that his “parting gift” to Wilf was his final opportunity to “say something”.

In Thursday’s final, Kieran voted for Wilf during the last Round Table of the series, dramatically declaring his vote as a “parting gift” as he felt he’d been thrown under the bus by his fellow contestant.

Speaking about the moment, Kieran exclusively told the Daily star that he needed to “plant a seed” for the other contestants.

He said: “I had to pick a well-timed couple of words to plant a seed and once they said ‘You need to cast your vote’ I thought ‘This is my opportunity to say something within the boundaries of the game and see if it will plant a seed’.”

“It came to me before voting and thank god it did,” Kieran added, standing by his decision.

During the show, as Kieran dealt his vote, Wilf said: “I should never have trusted him but then he shouldn’t have trusted me,” knowing that the vote would make the other contestants question whether he was a Faithful or a Traitor at the last minute.

Wilf felt the pressure of this, saying: “I need to think of a reason why Kieran would do that because they’re probably racking their heads thinking, ‘Why would he do that?'”

Fans were infuriated by Kieran’s “sly” move and accused him of cheating during the final episode.

One fan took to Twitter to write: “Kieran was incredibly sly for that. Absolute cheater and it shouldn’t have been allowed! That’s the game! #TheTraitors.”

However, Kieran gave some clarity about the moment and said: “You’re not allowed to directly accuse a Traitor, but it’s the same as Wilf voting for Amanda and Alyssa. A lot of people saying ‘Kieran’s cheated’ but I played within the rules and I was allowed to cast my vote.”

Although Kieran made it to the final, it was Faithfuls Meryl, Hannah and Aaron that took home the £100,000 prize fund, which left him feeling “gutted” he just missed out as he felt he had a “really good chance.”

He admitted: “I was starting to be a good Faithful, my name was never mentioned on the round table and I was playing a good game. I was gutted because I thought I had a really good chance.

Kieran also shockingly confessed that he’d had Wilf “on his radar” since Amanda was unveiled as a Traitor, but said it was “quite clear” that if he was vocal, “you weren’t coming down the breakfast”.
