It seems even the festive season isn’t an excuse for the scriptwriters to give the Weatherfield residents a break, as Christmas Day has also seen plenty of deaths over the years.
Daily Star takes a look at the Corrie favourites we’ve lost at Christmas.
Robert Preston
The most recent Christmas Day death came in 2019, when Tracy’s beloved ex Robert Preston met his sticky end.
Despite getting through a testicular cancer diagnosis, Robert found himself on the wrong end of a gun during the street’s Winter Wonderland extravaganza.
He had been on his way to meet his newborn son when he was shot by Derek Milligan, with Michelle Connor left devastated by the news – despite Robert leading a double life for months and getting another woman pregnant.
In April 2019, actor Tristan Gemmill announced he was quitting his role as Robert after four years, explaining: “Folks, I just wanted to let you know that the time has come for me to hang up the chef’s gear and head for pastures new.
“There is still a lot of drama & shenanigans to come for Robert but I will be leaving Corrie later in the year.”
Derek Milligan
During Gary Windass’ sinister loan shark storyline, Derek Milligan was a businessman caught up in his dodgy dealings.
He was enlisted to help infiltrate the construction of Underworld after the death of Rana Habeeb in the roof collapse.
But after months of trying to get back at Gary for his mounting debts and eventually attempting to blackmail Gary, Derek was held hostage in the furniture shop.
His thoughts soon turned to murder and he attempted to fight back, but accidentally killed Robert in the process.
Later in the episode, his own shot rebounded, leading Derek to fall from the helter-skelter – leaving the street reeling from the shock in the same incident that gave Shona Platt brain damage.

Way back in 1999, Corrie aired its first ever Christmas death – and it was a harrowing one.
Simon was a 10-year-old boy rushed to Weatherfield General after being knocked off his bike, who met his untimely end after reaching A&E.
It was down to Martin Platt and Rebecca Hopkins to break the news of Simon’s death to his mum on Christmas Day, which eventually led the pair to begin their illicit affair behind Gail Platt’s back.
