GMB turns tense as guest accuses host of giving him a 'lecture' during heated clash

Good Morning Britain star Rob Rinder found himself in a heated clash with a retired member of the police force on Wednesday (December 28).

The presenter, 44, was joined by Charlotte Hawkins as they read through today’s top headlines, including the reveal that police failed to solve more than one million thefts and burglaries in England and Wales last year.

The pair welcomed retired police officer Mick Neville into the studio who immediately voiced his disgust as he began with saying he would be “ashamed” if he was a member of the police force at this time.

But the conversation soon took a turn as the former DCI claimed an improvement the government could make is scrapping diversity and inclusion, making the crimes their sole focus.

Mick continued: “I’ve never known anyone black or white, gay or straight person say to me that I wasn’t happy with the colour or sexuality of the officer that came to help me.”

Interjecting, the ITV star questioned how much money would be saved if they scrapped this – to which Mick claimed the figure could amount to over £20 million.

He later added: “People are sick and tired of WOKE nonsense from the public sector.”

“It maybe WOKE nonsense but that’s besides the point,” the Judge Rinder presenter responded before stating that funding is the main issue within the police force.

The guest swiped: “You’ve given me a lecture there,” before continuing his rant.

The discussion left viewers raging as they took to social media to slam Mick for his views.

One penned: “Don’t know who he is or why he’s on my tv but some old grumpy ex policeman on #gmb just said “the general public are sick to death of all this woke nonsense” By which he appears to mean anyone not racist, sexist or homophobic. Not this member of the general public mate.”

“#GMB How ironic that you follow John Humphrys discussing respect of elders with another elder bigot ex-Police who shows precisely why @metpoliceuk need diversity & inclusivity training…what a nasty pernicious attitude he has,” added a second.

A third echoed: “This man on #GMBsaying diversity training doesn’t matter for police. As the misogyny and structural racism uncovered has shown, of course it does.

“Typical ridiculous excuse. Blame measures to try to ensure fairness for failure of a service and ignore the deliberate underfunding of the public sector by the government over the last 12 years #GMB.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am
