Speaking to Daily Star and other press at a recent Corrie event, Iain said: “We’ve got his fantastic cohort of youngsters.
“We thought there’s a huge story we can tell that features them right at the heart of it. It’s very relatable and teenage.
“We’re hoping it will be one of those stories which shocks people a bit and provokes awkward conversations in front of the televisions.
“We’re fortunately as a show that we’ve got that cross generational appeal where young people might sit with their Nanna and watch Coronation Street.”
Iain went on to reveal what viewers can expect from the young stars in the gripping plot.
He continued: “This story I think will sort of encourage conversations that you will never normally have in that cross generational way.
“It’s tricky, tonal territory but I’m really pleased with it.
“We’re working really closely with charities to make sure we’ve got the details right and fundamentally it’s just about those brilliant young actors being superstars that they are.”
“The best stories in my opinions are the ones that don’t sit in the one demographic corner and it’s exactly one of those.
“Huge stuff for people directly involved but also their parents, loved ones and ripples spread out throughout the whole show.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX
