Jonathan Ross 'embarrassed' after failing to spot pal on Masked Singer

Jonathan Ross failed to spot one of his best mates on this series of The Masked Singer.

The TV judge, who has interviewed some of the world’s biggest celebrities, confessed to being embarrassed after realising the mystery singer was someone he knew well.

He said: “One of them was definitely a friend. I mean, that was slightly embarrassing, because I didn’t get them right.

“I know this person socially and I’m in touch with this person via text quite a lot and all that kind of thing.

“After the show I texted them and had a chat with them, so that’s embarrassing. It’s the first time it’s happened to me on the show.

“In my defence, I think we all should have got this person.”

Now in its fourth series, the stars signing up to the hugely popular ITV show will do whatever it takes to avoid being unmasked.

And that means trouble for “detectives” Jonathan, Mo Gilligan, Rita Ora and Davina McCall as they try to identify the characters, which in this series include a rubbish bin, an otter and a jacket potato.

Mo said: “There’s an identity to be revealed on the show which I was so shocked by. You could have been running the show for two years and still no one would’ve got it.

“But the clues are so obvious once you see who it is. I think that’s the one that’s going to be quite fun for the public to try and guess.

“But the clues this year are so hard. Much harder than ever before.”

Jonathan added: “The weird thing is, once you’ve got the idea in your head for someone and they kind of fit, it’s really hard to snap away from that and think about other people.

“You keep going back to your strongest guess.”

The wacky show is loved as much for the outrageous costumes as it is for being an addictive guessing game. This series will include two special themed episodes, one a time hop through the decades and another dedicated to festivals.

The Masked Singer is on ITV1 and ITVX, Saturday, 7pm.
