Cringiest Masked Singer moments – judge storm off, Rita snub and 'disappointing' reveal

The Masked Singer UK has just kicked off its fourth season on ITV.

The nation’s favourite armchair detective show made its triumphant return on New Year’s Day and certainly kicked 2023 off with a bang.

Judges Davina McCall, Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan returned to help unmask the mystery line-up, while Joel Dommett returned to his post as presenter.

But while things have been running smoothly so far, there have been plenty of moments that have made viewers turn away from their screens.

From a Rita Ora snub to a judge infamously walking off stage, here are some of the most cringiest moments from The Masked Singer.

Rita Ora snub

The audience were left cringing when one of Rita’s suggestions was met with total silence

Things turned increasingly awkward for singer Rita during the premiere of the third season of The Masked Singer in January 2022.

The 32-year-old followed suit and threw several names into the mix as to who could be hiding behind one of the masks.

But audiences were left cringing when the Hot Right Now hitmaker’s suggestion was met with total silence from the audience.

Battling it out on stage were Lion Fish and Firework, with the exotic sea creature saying they were full of soul and partial to a cheesy joke.

When it came to guessing, the blonde beauty confidently said: “I think you could be a woman,” adding: “Those lips are a bit frowny, a bit like one of my favourite movies, Finding Nemo and Dory. And who plays Dory? Ellen DeGeneres.”

Following her guess, the studio audience and her fellow panellists fell into complete silence, with just a few awkward laughs heard to mask the lack of response.

Host Joel Dommett couldn’t let the moment slide without making a comment and broke the silence by saying: “Never before has an audience gone, ‘no’.”

Judge storms off

During The Masked Singer’s seventh season in March 2022, viewers were left cringing after judge Ken Jeong walked offstage in protest.

Following his performance of Bad to the Bone, politician Rudy Giuliani was unmasked as Jack in the Box, much to the public and judge’s surprise.

Sat alongside the Hangover star was Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and Nicole Scherzinger, with the Pussycat Dolls icon failing to recognise the controversial person stood in front of her on stage.

“Is that Robert Duvall?” the 44-year-old asked, to which Ken bluntly responded: “No, that’s not Robert Duvall.”

As the former Mayor of New York City began bantering with Jenny, the American actor declared he was “done” before storming off stage – leaving everyone not knowing what to do.

Later, a source spoke about the incident and said: “Ken was super upset and indeed stormed out.

“Ken felt disrespected and was livid to see Rudy was under the mask, which is why he walked off. There’s no way he could hide his feelings.”

Disappointing reveal

Justin Hawkins was revealed as Chameleon

Both Rita Ora and the audience were left red-faced after The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins was revealed as Chameleon during series one.

Throughout the competition, the Black Widow songstress made it apparent she had a crush on the anonymous singer as he continued to wow her with his vocals.

She even fantasised about having children with the character, joking that meeting on the ITV show would be a great story to tell their future kids.

Rita admitted she had “gone red” with embarrassment

Clocking his “athletic frame,” Rita made it no secret that she hoped professional boxer Anthony Joshua was stood before her.

So when the 47-year-old was unmasked, the Fifty Shades of Grey actress couldn’t hide her shock, later admitting she had “gone red” with embarrassment.

Justin even told Joel that he is “quite single,” leading to only more awkwardness in the room.
