Love Island's Kai Fagan 'won't close door' on teaching after students encouraged show

Love Island’s Kai Fagan has worked as a teacher since getting qualified, but he’s taking time away to go on the ITV2 dating show.

His commitments to the show will likely mean he can’t return as a teacher for the school year, but it seems it’s not quite on the cards to return to the same school just yet.

However, Kai’s long-term plan is to go back to working with young people and he hasn’t “closed the door” on teaching.

Kai, who is the second teacher to go on Love Island after Hugo Hammond made his debut in 2021, told Daily Star and other press that if he doesn’t go back to being a teacher, he still wants to work with kids.

He said: “I’d never close the doors on teaching, I still want to work with kids, whether it’s pastoral or a mentor role or doing something very similar. That’s the plan anyway.”

Kai explained that he thinks the kids are likely to put TikToks up about him, but it wasn’t until last week that they would have found out.

The newbie said nobody knew about his stint, but he told his line manager soon before he was poised for the job.

He said: “I also told one of my other colleagues, but the kids always joke with me and tell me I should apply for Love Island, and they all say ‘Mr Fagan is a top ‘g”.”

Kai is also preparing for the teachers to watch him try to find love as he declared he’s not nervous about them watching because he’s “just going to be me”, and teased he’s hoping they’ll be voting for him too.

The teacher is heading in the villa with nine other singletons as he tries to find love and make it to the final to land the cash prize.

He’ll be entering the Love Island villa over the weekend with the scenes ready to air on ITV on Monday, January 16.

And there will be a surprise arriving too, with viewers voting which bombshell they want to enter the villa – either Ellie Spence or Tom Clare, ready to shake things up nice and early.
