Leeds United sensation Willy Gnonto scored a stunning volley in the FA Cup that has drawn parallels to Paulo Di Canio’s legendary goal for West Ham.
In the opening minute of the Yorkshire outfit’s third-round replay, Gnonto, 19, evaded Cardiff City defender Thomas Sang at the back post before rifling in an incredible scissor-kick volley, that gave opposition keeper Jak Alnwick no chance.
The left-footed wonder strike came just 26 seconds into the contest at Elland Road and immediately drew comparisons with Paulo Di Canio, who is fondly remembered for netting a similar volley against Wimbledon in the Premier League.

“I am a Willy Gnonto stan. What a hit! Di Canio-esque,” hailed one adoring supporter on Twitter. “Brilliant Paolo Di Canio goal in 26 seconds from Wilfried Gnonto! The 19-year-old is rocking England,” praised a second.
“Oh my word. Di Canio vibes from fellow Italian Willy Gnonto,” commented a third. “That’s the best goal I’ve ever seen from Gnonto, outside of the boot Di Canio. Oh my life,” lauded a fourth.

While a fifth stated: “Nah we have to actually analyse that goal by Gnonto. Di Canio esque finish. THAT WAS A TIMELESS FINISH! If you know that Di Cani finish then you know ball. We have to realise how much of a MAD GOAL that was.
Di Canio’s scissor-kick claimed Match of the Day’s prestigious goal of the season award for the 1999/2000 campaign.
Mainly down to his sheer audacity, the Italian launched himself into the air to hammer home Trevor Sinclair’s cross in outrageous fashion, stretching out his left foot to steady his body before slamming the ball into the net with a right-footed rocket.
The remarkable goal is widely celebrated as one of the best in Premier League history. There must be something in the pasta.
