Blake Lively, 35, brutally branded 'too old' after landing lead role in It Ends With Us

Blake Lively has been savagely branded “too old” for her new role as the female lead in the film adaptation of Coleen Hoover’s chart topping novel It Ends With Us.

The book has gone viral on social media since its release and plans to cast Blake as protagonist Lily have seriously ruffled the feathers of Hoover fans.

35-year-old Lively will share a 12 year age gap with the character, who (in the book) recently graduated from college and becomes embroiled in a love triangle with an older man and her childhood crush.

Fans of the story have taken to social media to complain about the casting choice and didn’t hold back with their savage comments.

One person tweeted out: “Blake Lively being cast as Lily Bloom in It Ends With Us is confusing because the character is 23 in the book and Blake is 12 years older?”

Another fan simply labelled the idea as “quite possibly the worst casting that’s ever been cast”.

A second Twitter user added: “Blake Lively announced to play Lily in It Ends With Us comes as a shock. Not only the age difference (35 Blake and 23 Lily), but the personality difference seems too stark to work well!”

One fan simply wrote: “Love Blake Lively but why did they cast Lily so old? Like, side eye.”

Hoover’s novel gained huge popularity thanks to social media

Others gathered to say that the casting choice “bothered them,” that Blake would be “better suited to play Verity” and that they were “frustrated” by her appearance.

The announcement comes soon after Blake recently hit the headlines for trolling her husband of 11 years Ryan Reynolds.

Lively and Reynolds are known for their goofy behaviour and constant one-upmanship of each other and Blake’s recent social media post had fans in stitches.

Blake and Ryan love to tease each other online

She took to Instagram to post a picture of her television as Ryan could be seen looking panicked while supporting his football team, Wrexham AFC.

Reynolds co-owns the football club and appeared worried as they played against Sheffield United in the fourth round of the FA Cup in Wales.

Blake admitted to her followers that she had “bought ESPN+” just so that she could “watch her husband experience crippling anxiety live”.

She had no regrets and openly admitted that the cost was “worth it” to see his reaction.
