My Feet Are Killing Me star with ‘stiletto feet’ made of calluses faces grisly procedure

One star of TLC reality show My Feet Are Killing Me faced a gruelling procedure to remove the huge calluses that had built up on the soles of her feet – creating natural ‘stilettos’.

Patient Rebecca, who hails from the state of Georgia, initially appeared on the US medical show back in 2021, diagnosed with Olmsted Syndrome which causes tough skin and calluses to build up on her feet.

Dr Sarah Haller, tasked with the grisly removal of the calluses, was taken aback as she gasped: “Her calluses, they’re almost an inch thick. It’s like having a stiletto permanently on your foot.”

Rebecca explained that life with the calluses feels like she is constantly “walking on rocks”, explaining she has to battle nerve pain, burning and itching.

“I can’t sleep,” she confessed on the show. “There are times I wake up in the middle of the night, 10, 15 times because the pressure pains from it are excruciating at times. My condition is exhausting.”

Rebecca was instead forced to crawl around her home on her knees after being left unable to walk, and by the time she was seven years old was using a wheelchair to get around.

Upon taking her shoes off in the examination room, viewers of the show could see the calluses building up on Rebecca’s heels, the balls of her feet and around her toes.

Explaining the operation she would have to face, Dr Haller said: “I would like to get some of this off today to at least help you walk a little more comfortably, and to try and keep this at bay so you don’t have to keep going into surgery.”

Despite there being no cure for Rebecca’s syndrome at this time, Dr Haller was positive there will be a long-term solution somewhere down the line.

But during the episode, Rebecca had some of the calluses removed with a scalpel in the examination room – before ultimately having to go into surgery.

Viewers of the programme could watch as Dr Haller scraped lumps of the calluses off Rebecca’s feet in “big chunks”, as she left “holes” in her feet, comparing them to “the pit of the peach”.

“It’s soft on the inside but it has a hard shell that we just removed,” she commented.

It was Rebecca’s 32nd operation to have the calluses taken away – but in a revolutionary new op, Dr Haller decided to apply skin grafts to encourage healthy tissue to grow in its place.

In a follow-up last year, Rebecca reported she was doing well after her procedure and showed off her healthier looking feet with the grafts applied – and confirmed she is able to go about her day normally.
