Love Island star Belle Hassan and actor dad Tamer lose family in Turkey earthquake

Former Love Island beauty Belle Hassan and her movie star dad Tamer Hassan have family members who are lost following the earthquake crisis in Turkey and Syria.

Famed British-Turkish actor Tamer has become the latest familiar face to lend his support to the appeal sending aid to the devastated areas affected by the terrifying natural disaster.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake originally struck in the early hours of Monday wreaking havoc between both countries, a subsequent 7.5 magnitude earthquake then hit, before a series of aftershocks and tremors added to the chaos and destruction.

The earthquake is the biggest to hit the area for 84 years and has reportedly shifted Turkey by 10ft making it one of the worst earthquakes of the century.

Talking to Sky News Hassan admitted his heartbreak over the incident.

He said: “I literally have no words for this. We’re all devastated as I explained before we have family that are lost, not found.

“The biggest distress for me is that there are some areas that have been completely flattened with no help. No one is there to help them.”

Tamer is currently in Cyprus where he is helping to raise money and supplies for the relief effort before he heads to Turkey to join rescue volunteers.

The World Health Organisation currently predict that some 23 million people have been affected with a predicted death toll in excess of 20,000 as the rescue operation continues.

Tamer explained his fears for survivors who have been left homeless with no food or help in exceptionally cold conditions.

He said: “People are freezing, people are starving. They need the world to come together to help them.”

Tamer also hit out at the Turkish government for what he sees as their inadequate response to what is happening.

He said: “They need to step up. People are left on their own to survive… they need hard, fast help.”

There have been growing tensions over the lack of speed from President Erdogan’s relief effort in affected areas.

Many families have been left to dig for their own missing relatives with no help in some of the most severely affected areas.

Rescue teams are also struggling to help due to inadequate equipment and damaged infrastructure.
