Rihanna ‘s half-time show at this year’s Super Bowl final has caused outrage amid complaints from TV viewers that it was “indecent” and “pornographic”.
TMZ, the US news organisation, obtained 103 complaints made to the Federal Communications Commission, with almost all of the them relating to the singer’s performance at American football’s biggest game.
The 35-year-old star’s lyrics and choreography at Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, earlier this month were claimed to be too sexualised, particularly as children were likely to be watching.

One viewer commented: “I don’t care what someone worships but children shouldn’t be exposed to pornography and as an adult I don’t wish to see it… Where has decency gone? How about respect for others and self?”
Another wrote: “This year the half-time show was so indecent I had to turn off the TV because of the pornographic content.”
A third mentioned the singer’s dance moves, saying: “She spread her a** cheek at the crack. She rubbed her pants where her labia was three times.”
Rihanna was pregnant with her second child at the time, so she didn’t dance much, with most anger being directed at the background dancers, who some said made gestures that “were patently offensive and completely inappropriate for children”.
However, some YouTube commentators have backed the singer, with one saying: “Rihanna Super Bowl half-time performance was watched by millions of people… 100 FCC complaints is really nothing in comparison.”

Another noted: “You can never have the whole world with you, never ever. No matter what you do and who you are, people are always going to be mad or criticising.”
TMZ also pointed out that Rihanna’s show was a “cakewalk for the FCC” compared to another Super Bowl half-time performance, referencing the Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction” at the 2004 final “that generated 540,000 complaints!!!”
