BBC Breakfast presenter takes cheeky swipe at Carol Kirkwood saying 'it's her job'

BBC Breakfast presenter Rachel Burden appeared to take a cheeky swipe at co-star Carol Kirkwood during the latest episode of the morning show.

Rachel was back on the famous red sofa on Thursday (March 2) alongside co-host Charlie Stayt.

The pair were on hand to wake up the nation with the latest headlines from around the world.

After Carol Kirkwood offered the latest weather forecast, Charlie and Rachel thanked their co-star for the update before they were interrupted by guest Lenny Henry.

The comedian, who was on the show to promote World Book Day, could be heard saying: “Thanks Carol” off-screen.

Charlie pointed out: “There we go Carol, that’s Lenny Henry saying hello.”

After a brief pause, he asked: “Are you still there?”

Lenny added: “She’s gone” before Carol interjected saying: “No, hello. Hi Lenny.”

Rachel said: “She’s paying attention.”

“You do the weather good,” Lenny said as he complimented Carol.

Rachel replied: “Just as well it’s her job, but yeah”, leaving Lenny quiet

Conversation swiftly moved on to World Book Day and went through pictures sent in from viewers of children dressed up to mark the occasion.

Naga Munchetty was missing from the latest episode of BBC Breakfast.

The presenter usually hosts the programme Thursday to Saturday with Charlie but was nowhere to be seen.

It’s not the first time one of Naga’s co-stars stepped in to replace her in recent weeks.

Last Friday (February 24), Nine Warhurst filled in for Naga as she failed to appear on the show.

As well as BBC Breakfast, Naga hosts her own Radio 5 Live phone-in show from Monday to Wednesday, where she chats to viewers about the latest issues facing the country.

BBC Breakfast often has a number of relief hosts who step in to front the show when the main presenters aren’t available to do so.

Nina herself is a relief presenter for Breakfast, but she’s also a business and consumer presenter on the programme.
