Ken Bruce snapped leaving Radio 2 for last time as Vernon Kay set to take over

BBC Radio host Ken Bruce has been snapped leaving Radio 2 for the last time after signing off from his iconic show for good.

The popular presenter stepped down earlier than planned on Friday (March 3) with Vernon Kay now ready to take over the sought-after BBC Radio 2 slot next week.

Ken announced he would be leaving early on Twitter last week just hours after it was confirmed that TV host Vernon, 48, would be taking over

He wrote: “I will be presenting my last show on Radio 2 next Friday. I had intended fulfilling my contract until the end of March but the BBC has decided it wants me to leave earlier. Let’s enjoy the week ahead!”

Ken originally confirmed he would be leaving last month after 31 years at the broadcaster saying it was “time for a change”.

Meanwhile speaking about the epic career move Vernon – who has previously hosted his own show on Radio 1 and filled in on Radio 2 – admitted his excitement and called the opportunity “a dream come true.”

He said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to be handed the microphone to present the mid-morning show on Radio 2, and what an honour to follow in the footsteps of the mighty Ken Bruce.

“I look forward to playing some of the best music in the world whilst in the company of the Radio 2 listeners, who I feel I’ve got to know over the last 18 months.

“It’s a dream come true to join the Radio 2 family and I can’t wait to start.”

Listeners have welcomed the news of Vernon stepping into the role as they excitedly praised his presenting skills on Twitter.
