But while many romances survive the trials and temptations of the villa, many face possibly the most brutal dumping of all – just days before the final episode.
As the latest season draws to a close, let’s take a look back at some of the most controversial couples who never made it to the final episode…
Paige and Adam
Paige Thorne and Adam Collard were eliminated from Love Island just a day prior to the finale last year, after being dubbed the “least compatible” by both their fellow Islanders and the general public.
The 24-year-old paramedic and 26-year-old personal trainer were asked to leave the villa immediately, leaving Davide and Ekin-Su, Luca and Gemma, Andrew and Tasha and Indiyah and Dami competing for the £50,000 prize.
Their time in the villa was plagued with turmoil after Paige’s tumultuous relationship with Jacques O’Neill, who walked out of the villa following Adam’s arrival.
The pair had been quite public with their relationship, spending time in each other’s hometowns of Swansea and Newcastle. However, the pair have since split, with Paige deleting all traces of her man from social media
Liberty and Jake
Just days before the 2021 Love Island finale, Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish, also known as Jiberty, decided to leave the villa following the end of their relationship.
The pair first coupled up on the opening day of the reality show and became the first official couple after Jake asked Liberty to be his girlfriend a few weeks later.
However, their relationship was full of ups and downs, and they decided to part ways. The 21-year-old waitress from Birmingham, became emotional and expressed concerns about a comment Jake made regarding her messiness giving him “the ick”.
Jake, a water engineer from Weston-super-Mare, also left the villa with Liberty. Speaking before leaving the villa, Liberty said: “It is a bit of an awkward one. Being here with my friends and seeing them is great.
“I am literally so happy for every single one of them that they have been able to find someone for them. But I am going to leave today anyway because that is the right choice for me.”
“I feel exactly the same,” replied Jake.
Mike and Priscilla
The Love Island villa witnessed brutal dumping as Mike Boateng and Priscilla Anyabu were voted off just a few days before the final back in 2020.
The Islanders were unaware that the viewers had been voting for their favourite couples, resulting in Mike and Priscilla being informed via text that they had finished at the bottom of the vote and had to leave.
Mike, who was one of the original boys in the villa, expressed his contentment after being evicted.
He described his Love Island experience as an amazing journey, adding that he met great people, made good friends, and got to know their families.
He said: “I’m feeling great. My time on Love Island has been an amazing journey. I’ve met some really good people, good friends and I’ve seen their families as well. I’ve seen where they’ve all come from and it makes sense – they’ve all been raised by such beautiful parents, brothers and sisters.
“And of course, I’ve got a girlfriend leaving, I’m happy.”
Their relationship continued to blossom back home, becoming one of the longest-running couples, however, it is now reported that they have called time on their romance.
Anton and Belle
Just a day before the final, Anton Danyluk and Belle Hassan were heartbroken when they were dumped from the Love Island villa, losing out to Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins and Ovie Soko and India Reynolds in the public vote back in 2019.
During the episode, viewers watched as each couple had to vote to dump another couple, with Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague and Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea making it through to the final.
Although Belle and Anton had a rough start, having a heated argument over Anton’s flirtatious behaviour and comments, they eventually made up and seemed stronger than ever.
Their journey on the show began when Belle joined the villa in Casa Amor and the couple hit it off instantly, sharing a cuddle in bed.
However, their hopes of winning the show were dashed when they received the fewest votes and were dumped from the Island.
The two separated just five weeks after leaving the villa.
Alex and Alexandra
The sudden breakup of Dr Alex George and Alexandra on Love Island left fans puzzled back in 2018.
Despite hitting a rough patch during their time together, the couple appeared to have reconciled, spending a night together in the Hideaway and taking a luxurious ride in a red Ferrari during a romantic date.
However, Dr Alex made a surprising decision that stunned fans when he ended things with Alexandra suddenly.
He expressed concern about the speed at which their relationship was progressing, but she accused him of stringing her along and called him “pathetic” before storming off.
As she left, she declared: “You’ve wasted my time and you’ve wasted your own, shame on you!”
The pair were ultimately dumped from the villa just one day before the final.
