It was announced earlier today (Friday, March 17), that Alison Hammond will take over from Matt Lucas as the new co-host of The Great British Bake Off alongside Noel Fielding.
Hosting This Morning with Dermot O’Leary on Friday morning, one hour after her GBBO news was confirmed, Alison made an admission.
After being congratulated on her new job by Dermot, Alison revealed the real reason that she took the Channel 4 hosting gig.

Dermot gushed that Alison was the “new Bake Off host” before Alison said: “Can you believe it?”
The studio then burst out in cheers and whoops before Alison revealed that the cake was why she signed up for the show.
“I’ll be honest with you, I’m just in it for the cake,” she admitted, before adding: “I really am.”
After it was announced fans flocked to Twitter to celebrate the exciting news, with many over the moon for the former Big Brother star.
One fan penned: “I just love Alison Hammond. How can you not ??? She is so funny and bubbly and can’t wait to see her host The Great British Bake Off.”
“Congrats Alison!” added a second, while a third said: “Yay congratulations Alison new Bake Off presenter… can’t wait.”
A fourth then wrote: “I can’t wait to see Alison Hammond on GBBO. She’s going to give Paul Hollywood a run for his money This Morning.”
Earlier today, the GBBO Facebook page announced the news that Alison would take over Matt Lucas’ hosting role.
Sharing a snap of Alison posing with a cake of her with Noel, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, the programme welcomed their new TV family member.
They wrote: “We’re delighted to announce that Alison Hammond will be joining forces with Noel Fielding to host the next series of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 later this year. We cannot wait!”
