A beloved star from ITV’s hit series Vera has quit after appearing on the show for eight years as a main character.
Taking to social media to thank the show for the memories earlier this month, Kenny Doughty, who plays DS Aiden Healy, sparked concern among fans.
Posting some snaps from the set of the drama series online and writing: “Thanks for the memories,” many fans were confused.

“This is an ambiguous caption and one which makes me nervous,” wrote one fan, while another pleaded: “Please tell me this doesn’t mean you’re leaving the series, or the series is over. Please!”
But yesterday, March 20, Kenny confirmed his fans’ worst fears when he officially announced his departure from the show after three weeks of speculation.
Sharing a snap of him beaming with leading lady Brenda Blethyn, the hunky actor, 47, penned a lengthy caption with the string of snaps he uploaded.
In the caption, Kenny wrote: “After 8 years and 35 Vera films, I’ve made the difficult decision of handing over DS Healy’s badge. I can confirm I am leaving Vera.”
He went on: “I want to thank everyone who’s made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy and inspiration Brenda Blethyn.
“The perfect leading star who I owe so much to. I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter & have been a rock for me over the years. I can’t thank you enough. Precious times.”
Kenny then left a sweet message for the fans, writing; “And finally the Vera fans: without you and your support I would never have made so many films. You really are the best fans in the world. Thank you so much for your loyalty & love for the show.”
Fans of the actor, and the drama series as a whole, were quick to show their love and support, with many commenting sweet messages under the emotional post.
“Oh no…. you can’t leave Vera. Who’s going to look after her? Totally gutted,” wrote one of Kenny’s fans.
Another added: “Oh no! You’ll be missed, but thanks for all your hard work.”
While a third wrote: “Wish you every success in the future. Thank you for adding so much to the role. You will be missed.”
And a fourth speculated: “Maybe we have seen the last of Vera. The next season hasn’t been confirmed.”
