Phillip Schofield’s brother “sexually abused a teenage boy across a period of three years”, a court has heard.
Timothy Schofield, 54, is accused of 11 counts of sexual offences against the boy which allegedly began back in October 2016 when the victim was a teenager.
The alleged offences include Timothy causing the boy to watch and engage in sex acts – which were allegedly carried out while he was working for Avon and Somerset Police.
Opening the case for the prosecution, Peter Stellard said: “This is a case about the obsessive sexual interest of Timothy Schofield in [his alleged victim] and the subsequent sexual abuse of that teenage boy.
“The defendant is seven years younger than Phillip and they had not been particularly close growing up, however in December 2019 the defendant told his brother he was gay.
“According to Phillip the defendant travelled up that day [September 2021] and he was extremely agitated.
“His brother described him as very angry and distressed. The defendant also told his brother that he was impotent.
“The defendant then said his brother would hate him for what he was about to say, his brother said that he wouldn’t and then the defendant said he had their time together and that last year they had watched porn and w***** together.”
Timothy arrived at Exeter Crown Court on Monday (March 27) wearing a grey shirt, navy trousers and a face mask.
He also carried a jacket over his head to avoid being photographed and held a large rucksack.
Timothy has denied the charges against him.
