Hollyoaks fans 'beg' for Donna-Marie to 'beat her demons' in heartbreaking twist

Hollyoaks fans are begging writers to let Donna-Marie Quinn “beat her demons” as the soap aired a heartbreaking twist for the character.

Donna-Marie was left heartbroken after her daughter Juliet Nightingale announced that she was preparing to leave for Birmingham to undergo cancer treatment and had decided to take girlfriend Peri Lomax with her, rather than Donna-Marie.

Leela Lomax tried to cheer Donna-Marie up by organising a family party to say goodbye the couple, but during emotional scenes, it was revealed that former alcohol addict Donna-Marie had relapsed following concerns for her daughter.

Romeo Quinn smelt alcohol on Donna-Marie’s breath, saying to her: “How could you do this to Jules?” which led to family row and Donna-Marie accusing Romeo of not being there for Juliet.

Juliet and Peri decided to sneak out of the party and leave for Birmingham, rather than become embroiled in the family drama, leaving Donna once again devastated.

Following Donna-Marie’s relapse, fans have grown concerned for the character and are begging writers to let her “beat her demons” following the heartbreaking twist.

“Wish they didn’t do this! She has come so far! I know this is by far the hardest thing she has had to deal with, but would be nice to see her continue to beat her demons against all odds,” said one fan.

“Donna-Marie will be ok…I hope anyway,” begged a second.

“Please don’t make Donna-Marie bad again. Love her, such a good person. She’s turned herself around and it’d be a shame Hollyoaks to make her the way she was,” penned a third.

“Oh no, Donna-Marie was doing so well,” said a fourth, followed by a teary-eyed emoji, while a fifth added: “Donna-Marie saying she’s alright. She’s not alright.”

“Aw Donna-Marie” said another fan, followed by a broken heart emoji.

Meanwhile a seventh penned: “Donna-Marie is really struggling.”

“Poor Donna-Marie has relapsed, this is so heartbreaking #Hollyoaks,” added another.

Viewers also praised Donna-Marie actress Lucy-Jo Hudson for her performance, as Juliet and Peri’s temporary exit from the soap aired.

“Lucy Jo Hudson is sensational and her acting skills are a great asset to Oaks,” gushed one viewer.

“@Hollyoaks oh wow a beautiful scene with Donna-Marie and Juliet,” followed by love hearts,” agreed a second.

Speaking to Inside Soap about the emotional scenes that have just aired, Lucy-Jo Hudson revealed that Donna-Marie is trying to put on a brave face, but that she is secretly scared – leading to more heartbreaking scenes in upcoming weeks.

“[Donna-Marie] is putting on a brave face, but deep down she’s really frightened.

“She doesn’t know if the treatment is going to work, or if Juliet will be able to fight this. Her biggest fear is that she’s going to lose her daughter.

“It’s all going to get very heavy, and we’ll see Donna-Marie struggling to cope,” Lucy-Jo added.

“There will be lots of fights and lots of tears – but as an actress, that’s brilliant. Every day I’m doing something that challenges me and pushes me out of my comfort zone.”
