Netflix’s The Crown is said to be in chaos after one of the cast members “refused to return” amid alleged diary clashes.
Causing a “huge script change”, The Sun have reported that scripts have been “rewritten after producers failed to get Gillian Anderson back” for her role as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
American actress Gillian, 56, portrayed the role of no-nonsense PM Margaret Thatcher and received critical acclaim for doing so, with the Chicago-born star winning an Emmy Award and Golden Globe award.

Scriptwriters were said to be hoping that Gillian would reprise her role as the Prime Minister for the next series.
The paper claim that they wanted Gillian back as the PM in an episode covering Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s golden wedding anniversary.
With the publication now reporting that a TV source has said that despite Netflix hoping she would return to reprise the role of Maggie, “sadly that has not been the case due to scheduling issues”.
“As ever with the series, clever scripting will mean viewers will be none the wiser,” the source went on.
Although Gillian’s reasoning and diary clash behind not being involved in the sixth series is unknown, she was involved in charity work in February when the scenes were reported to have been filmed.
Daily Star has reached out to Gillian’s representative and Netflix for comment.
The original script is said to have featured the Queen and Prince Philip sat on thrones for a lavish dinner in 1997.
With the likes of Thatcher, Princess Anne and The Queen Mother in attendance, the dinner was held three months after Princess Diana’s death.
But due to the alleged diary clashes with Gillian and the production of the sixth series, producers have cut the scenes from the script and replaced them.
Instead of the filming the scenes of the dinner held on November 19, with Thatcher in attendance, the new script is said to depict the a second dinner that took place and was held a day later – where Thatcher wasn’t in attendance.
At the time of her joining the cast of The Crown in 2019, Gillian said: “I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of The Crown and to have the opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman.
“Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.”
