Alesha Dixon gobsmacked as she knows Britain's Got Talent act from girlband days

Fans were stunned when Alesha Dixon admitted she knew one of the Britain’s Got Talent hopefuls during the launch show of the new series.

Alesha, who shot to fame in the girl band Miss-Teeq, recognised one of the auditionees during the launch show of the all-new series tonight (April 15).

Appearing on-stage in the hopes of getting through to the next round was act The Big Sing.

The Big Sing is a community choir made up of singers from ages 3 to 83, with Gemma – who started up the choir – explaining how it was her and her husband Howard who created it.

When Simon spoke to Howard, Alesha made a surprising admission that left her fellow judges and viewers watching the episode at home in a state of shock.

“I actually know Howard very well,” Alesha said, leaving everyone stunned.

The head of the choir, Gemma, then went on to tell Simon that the youngest member of the choir is actually her three-year-old daughter.

Before the choir started to perform, Bruno Tonioli asked Alesha how she knew Howard, who was sat at the piano ready to play.

Replying to the new judge, Alesha said: “He used to play for Mis-Teeq.”

Alesha shot to fame in girl group Mis-Teeq in 1999, with the band garnering success until 2005.

The British girl group, consisted of Alesha and two other stars – Su-Elise Nash and Sabrina Washington.

They had originally been a quartet with Zena McNally, but she left the group in January 2001.

Mis-Teeq had two top-ten albums and seven consecutive top-ten singles, with chart-topping success on the UK Singles Chart as well as across the world.

After Alesha’s shock admission, The Big Sing went on to perform Brighter Days by Emeli Sandé with all four judges sending them through to the next round.

Britain’s Got Talent launches on Saturday 15th April, 20:00 and continues on Sunday 16th April, 19:45 on ITV1 and ITVX.
