Edd China says it would be fun to “challenge” Jeremy Clarkson and his Grand Tour co-hosts to an amphibious car race in a new world record attempt.
The TV presenter and car mechanic, who has appeared on Wheeler Dealers and hosts Edd China’s Workshop Diaries, has broken numerous world records with vehicles such as the fastest ice cream van, fastest toilet and fastest motorised shopping trolley.
He also appeared on Top Gear alongside Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May in 2002, where he created a “Bond car on a budget,” – and has now revealed he would like to challenge them in a world record attempt for fastest electric amphibian vehicle.

Jeremy, Richard and James previously attempted to break the British water speed record on The Grand Tour in 2018, and speaking exclusively to Daily Star about his plans for future projects, Edd said: “I’m working on an electric amphibian vehicle and maybe once I’ve got it sorted, we should challenge the boys to a bit of a race. It would quite good fun.”
Edd also revealed that he would like to challenge current Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness after the Take Me Out presenter broke Edd’s Guinness World Record for the fastest ice cream in 2020.
Edd broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest electric ice cream van in 2020 at a speed of 73.921mph, but in the same year, Paddy broke the same record in his vehicle based on a 1979 Bedford CF ice cream van – at a speed of 80.043mph.
“We obviously set the record a couple of years ago. Top Gear were inspired by that.
“They then beat my record, so now I’ve got to go back and we’re going to aim for 99mph – so we’ll see how that goes!”
When asked if he would like to re-challenge Paddy, Edd replied: “I think it would be great fun.
“I think that’s when you get to be super creative. A little bit of competition means you have to go the extra mile, so I think that would be great fun.”
Along with his electric amphibious car project and new episodes of Edd’s Workshop Diaries on the way, the presenter is also currently working on a campaign with storage solution experts BiGDUG, who he says have helped him find “more room for more projects.”
Edd China recently worked with BiGDUG, UK provider of garage shelving, storage and flooring.
