Adele tells best pal James Corden that she’s not ready to return to the UK – yet

Adele has said she’s not ready to return to the UK – although she didn’t slam the door completely on the possibility that it might happen one day.

The superstar singer was the guest for James Corden’s final Carpool Karaoke before he heads back across the Atlantic from the United States.

The best pals both got emotional during the segment as they reflected on their time together in America.

But while James said he’d enjoyed a “brilliant adventure” during his time on the other side of the water, stating that it’s “time to go home”, Adele said she was “not ready” to do the same thing.

She failed to rule out the possibility of following suit one day, though.

James told Adele: “I’m excited and scared in equal measure. I don’t know, it’s been a crazy eight years.

“In one sense it feels like it’s gone like that and in the other I can’t really remember what life was like before being here.”

As he arrived at the studio for the last time at the end of a Carpool Karaoke, James told her: “It’s blown my mind that you’ve done this for me … I love you and we have had the best times here.

“Our friendship and our family’s friendship has nothing to do with distance and time.”

And a tearful Adele replied: “I’m just not ready to come back yet otherwise I would come back with you.”

Carpool Karaoke has been a massively popular part of The Late Late Show. It involves James “driving to work” in the company of some of the planet’s top music stars, while singing songs from their back catalogue.

Sir Paul McCartney and One Direction have been among the celebrities joining in over the years.

Adele’s and James’s emotions came to the fore when they sang her song I Drink Wine.

The 34-year-old singer-songwriter told James the lyrics had been partly inspired by a conversation the pair had once had.

“We were on vacation together with the kids, and we were on our way home,” she said.

“And my mood had changed and it was like the first year where I felt like I had to hold myself accountable for being an adult.

“The year before I left Simon [Konecki] and stuff like that, and you and [James’s wife] Jules and the kids were so integral in looking after me… you used to do it with humour, too.”

James’s final edition of The Late Late Show is on Thursday (April 27).
