Corrie star issues apology for liking controversial Andrew Tate tweets after backlash

Coronation Street star Adam Hussain has issued an apology.

The actor, who plays Aadi Alahan on the Salford based soap, was the subject of intense backlash after he appeared to like several tweets from controversial personality Andrew Tate.

Andrew, 36, previously described himself as “absolutely a misogynist” and became a viral personality for his contentious remarks and offensive viewpoints.

The 22-year-old actor was seen to have liked many of both Andrew’s and his brother Tristan’s tweets, as well as some that come from their affiliates.

One tweet that he interacted with read: “”30 more days on house arrest. 30 more days suppressed.

“I haven’t been free for a single day this year. The battle rages against Shaitan.”

But after receiving backlash from viewers and social media users, the soap star issued an apology in a statement.

He said: “I’m really sorry if my “liking” of these tweets has caused any offence to our viewers and my colleagues.

“I wasn’t aware of Andrew Tate and his background and I would never endorse those views.”

“I liked some of his tweets in the moment with no reference to his back story. I will be more careful in future.”

This comes after former Big Brother star Andrew, was released from Romanian jail after he was arrested in December.

Tate was detained when his Bucharest home was raided by the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DICCOT) on December 29, 2022.

He had been held in a facility in Bucharest for three months on suspicion of human trafficking and his communication director has confirmed he’s now been placed under house arrest.

The 36-year-old and his brother Tristan, 34, were previously pictured handcuffed outside the Bucharest Court of Appeal, following another bail appeal that was denied.

The brothers were told they would be detained for another 30 days until April 21, with a warning they could be held until June 27 – when the 180-day investigation period expires.

But at the end of March, the Tate brothers gained their freedom, and were released from prison.

Their two associates, Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu, were also released.

None of the four has yet to be formally indicted and they deny the allegations against them.
