Love Island’s Samie in tears as she shares cancer fear after fans notice lump

Love Island star Samie Elishi was left in tears after she revealed she was undergoing tests for cancer after fans spotted a lump on her neck.

The 2023 winter series finalist – whose split from co-star Tom Clare was confirmed this week – opened up in an honest YouTube video on Friday (April 28).

The emotional clip, titled The Video I Never Wanted To Make, saw Samie, 22, speak to her fans and followers from a car.

She spoke of her health and explained that her loved ones had been bombarded with messages from concerned fans after they saw a lump on her neck during her time on the ITV2 series.

Samie explained that she had got some messages while on a night out with Love Island 2021 stars Millie Court and Chloe Burrows.

She asked series winner Millie to check her neck, and the Essex beauty found a “quite big” lump which prompted Samie to get it looked at.

The reality starlet told her worried fans that she has had a biopsy and thanked them for pointing it out to her.

Samie said doctors were “not sure” if the lump was cancerous or not, and that she could have to have surgery to have half of her thyroid removed.

Crying, she said: “I shouldn’t be upset because I’m so grateful that people messaged so I’ve caught it now and I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to get it removed and get it sorted.

“But it is still just really scary.”

Samie told fans that the lump was 5cm in size and medical professionals had labelled it a number three, which meant they couldn’t tell if it was cancerous.

The brunette beauty isn’t the only Love Islander to go through a cancer scare though, as Demi Jones was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2021.

Luckily, the young star went on to get the all clear later that year, and Samie has shared her gratitude for Demi being so open about her health journey.

She said: “I watched her [Instagram] highlight the other day and thank God she shared her journey because I’ve no idea what to expect so I’m so grateful for her sharing her journey and I’m going to share it as well, as hard as it’s going to be.”

Samie explained the “main thing” she was worried about was a scar and that her voice might change, however she said her concerns were “so dumb”.
