Hollyoaks’ James Nightingale star unrecognisable playing doctor in rival BBC soap

Gregory Finnegan made his debut in Hollyoaks as James Nightingale back in 2016.

Over the past seven years, the scheming solicitor has caused chaos in the village and has been part of some of the Channel 4 soap’s biggest storylines.

From his on-off relationship with Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) to his gambling addiction, there isn’t much drama James hasn’t been involved in in recent scenes.

However, fans may be surprised to know that Hollyoaks is not the first soap Gregory appeared in.

He has also appeared on rival soaps EastEnders and Doctors.

He portrayed Dr Alex Arnott in one episode of EastEnders back in 2011.

Gregory played not one but two roles in Doctors, David Hewitt and Duncan Montague.

As well soaps, the actor has appeared in TV series Valentine’s Kiss, Family Affairs, The Last Detective and Mile High.

In recent Hollyoaks scenes, James called the prison to let Eric Hutchinson (Angus Castle-Doughty) know he’ll be bringing Maxine Minnver (Nikki Sanderson)to visit him, but no one must know they’re working together.

However, his plan quickly came crashing down when Lacey Lloyd (Annabelle Davis) confronted him on what she overheard.

No longer being able to deny it, the lawyer admitted he’s being blackmailed by the inmate.

When the paralegal’s pleas to get her boss to do the right thing failed, she threatened to take matters into her own hands and to tell their colleague herself.

With his freedom on the line James gave Lacey an ultimatum; keep quiet or be sacked.

James continues to struggle with guilt next week and wants to make amends with Maxine but when he attempts to patch things up, he is met with resistance.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm
