BBC Coronation Concert suffers technical blunder as James Nesbitt remains silent

The BBC Coronation Concert saw an awkward technical blunder when James Nesbit was announced but didn’t appear on the screen.

James Nesbit was announced to read poetry but the camera cut to a shot of the audience rather than him.

Fans took to social media to comment on the blunder.

One fan said: “I don’t think James Nesbit realised he was on then” alongside a laughing face emoji.

Another penned: “Oh poor #JamesNesbit guessing his mic failed, hence cut away and then suddenly a hand mic.”

A third wrote: “Oh that was awkward! James Nesbit getting cold feet.”

When James did appear on screen he read a poem about “new beginnings” that fans fell in love with..

They took to social media and complimented him for his performance.

One person said: “James Nesbit did his wee country proud tonight.”

Another penned: “Brilliant! James Nesbit reading that poem too!”

Whilst a third wrote: “Liking the messages in the coronation concert. Here’s to the new beginnings James Nesbit referred to. Can’t come soon enough for our country.”

The concert itself was hosted by Downton Abbey and Paddington star Hugh Bonneville.

The show saw incredible performances by Take That, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, DJ Pete Tong, Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, veteran rock guitarist Steve Winwood, and Nicole singing Reflection from Mulan.

Presenter Zoe Ball was supposed to be presenting the show for BBC Radio 2 but was forced to pull out at the last minute due to illness.

On Sunday morning, Ball tweeted: “Absolutely gutted… the sickness bug has got me. Was meant to be heading to Windsor Castle for the #coronationconcert on @BBCRadio2 later.

“@radioleary and @scott_mills have got you covered. I’m heading back to bed.”
