Chris Fountain, who made his name playing, Tommy Duckworth in Coronation Street, has undergone heart surgery after suffering a stroke.
On May 12, In a bid to keep his fans in the loop and put their minds at rest, the actor posted a video after waking up, confirming that the operation had gone as planned.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, the 35-year-old filmed as much as he possibly could, before saying: “So the day’s arrived. Just walking to hospital. Got the mother here for moral support. Here we go.”

Fountain’s followers received the next update as he lay on his bed just prior to the start of the procedure. He then left them on tenterhooks until he finally confirmed that everything had gone as planned.
Prior to the surgery, he explained: “What they do is, go in through my groin, go up to my heart and put this thing through where the hole is and it leaves a metal umbrella, and they pull it through, it leaves another little metal umbrella at the other side.
“Then my heart grows around it, and hopefully, that should mean no more strokes, and I’ll have a little bionic heart.
“It’s a little bit nerve-wracking as it’s a heart procedure, but apparently it’s 99.9% successful. I’ll have to take it easy for a week or so after it’s done. So yeah, we do a marathon, and then we go to do a heart operation, as you do.”
Last year, tragedy struck when a blood clot on the brain, triggered by an undiagnosed hole in his heart, resulted in the performer suffering a mini stroke.
The situation rendered him terrified and without the ability to speak.
Consequently, he was rushed to Royal London Hospital, where he spent over a week, with doctors diagnosing him with a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA).
Sadly, the hole created a gateway in which the clot could navigate its way to his brain.
But in a testament to Fountain’s mental fortitude, he’s committed to seeing a speech therapist and has managed to regain a whopping 90% of his talking ability.
