Leslie Ash, 63, says ‘same old stars’ get hired when it comes to aging actresses

Leslie Ash argues that the industry always hires the “same old stars” when it comes to aging actresses.

The Men Behaving Badly star revealed that it has been an “eye-opening” experience after becoming a “certain age”.

Leslie exclusively said: “I never, never wanted it to ever come to an end. So, it’s quite eye-opening that when you do get to a certain age.

“You do not work as much. It’s always down to a select few that you tend to see all the time, but that is changing.”

The TV star, 63, did note that it does seem to be changing with the times as viewers are given more ways to watch titles.

Though noted it has been a problem for a number of years and it becoming frustrating for those in the career.

She added: “That is changing their people with different attitudes now, that don’t want the same old stars.

“They’ll choose unknowns, which there are some fantastic dramas on at the moment with that being the case.

“I love it when you don’t know any of the actors in it, bar maybe one star or whatever. It’s just so nice to see new talent coming in.

Leslie never wants her career to end

“It has been a problem in the industry, and I think it is slightly lazy. It used to mean that you, you know, your ratings would be high if you used the same people, but now, I mean, there are so many different ways to watch what you want.

Leslie spoke to us as she promoted this year’s Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

This year marks 30 years of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with headline sponsor Standard Life, part of Phoenix Group, following the inaugural event in the 90s – and the charity is celebrating its history with a little help from a selection of much-loved 90s stars including Leslie.

Leslie said: “The thing is that there are so many different places you could do it, and you don’t have to run, you can walk, you can hop, you can walk your dog, you can chat with your mate, but just get involved. It’s just such for such a brilliant cause.”
