Fans also took to social media as they went wild for guests and acting legends Sir Ian McKellan and Endeavour’s Roger Allam, as they discussed their new play Frank and Percy.

Another begged: “Two giants of British acting should surely have the sofa to themselves for the duration #TheOneShow.”

During their appearance on the programme, Sir Ian revealed that away from acting, he owns a pub in London called The Grapes – but he was “sacked” as their quiz master.

Sir Ian could be heard explaining: “I don’t drop in too often, but I’m there for the quiz on a Monday.

“I used to run the quiz actually. I used to be the quiz master. I devised all the questions – it took me a whole day in the week.”

However he revealed he was “sacked” from the role, adding: “I did this for a year and then my partner in the pub said, ‘We don’t need you anymore.’

“I was sacked.”

That’s not all, as viewers were treated to singer Anne-Marie’s new song Unhealthy during the programme too – featuring a collaboration with music legend Shania Twain who sent a special message to the show.

The One Show airs on BBC One at 7pm Monday to Friday.
