Ulrika Jonsson slams ‘Hollywood hypocrites’ for gushing over Johnny Depp

Ulrika Jonsson has called out “Hollywood hypocrites” for gushing over Johnny Depp as he returned to the red carpet for the first time since his trial against Amber Heard.

The TV presenter, 59, was left fuming after Depp premiered his new movie the Louis XV drama, Jeanne du Barry, at the Cannes Film Festival.

He received a seven-minute standing ovation at the event.

Ulrika’s remarks come after Depp came out in favour following a six-week bombshell legal battle against his ex-wife.

Depp sued the actress for defamation in response to a Washington Post op-ed she wrote in 2018, which featured claims about the alleged domestic violence she endured. However, Depp was not named in the piece.

The actor was compensated damages of £8 million and an additional £4million in punitive damages after the trial.

But Ulrika has since reminded fans that despite winning the battle, Depp was found to be a domestic abuser by a judge in an English High Court.

In her column with The Sun, she wrote: “As if winning his case of defamation against Heard, who gave countless examples of his atrocious conduct and made allegations of violent, coercive, denigrating and manipulative behaviour wasn’t enough, people are now — literally — rolling out the red carpet for Depp. He’s a hero.”

The 55-year-old explained how “men behaving badly are not only attractive but they are so easily forgiven”.

She claimed that any woman in his position wouldn’t have been let off so lightly.

Depp previously spoke about whether he felt “boycotted” at the festival.

“I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood, because I don’t think about Hollywood,” he said.

“I don’t have much further need for Hollywood, myself.

“It’s a strange, funny time where everybody would love to be able to be themselves, but they can’t. They must fall in line with the person in front of them. If you want to live that life, I wish you the best.”
