Leslie Ash says her ‘passionate’ marriage to footballer husband keeps her ‘young’

Leslie Ash has opened up about what helps her to keep feeling and looking youthful and says her marriage is one element.

The Casualty actress, 63, has been married to former pro footballer Lee Chapman, also 63, for 35 years.

Talking exclusively to the Daily Star, Leslie said: “Yeah, I mean, we yeah, exactly. I mean I think if you’re happy, you know, it shows. I mean, if you’re passionate about something and then it shows you know.”

She also said that she loves to keep fit and makes sure to still exercise regularly.

The star added: “I think being married to someone who was a professional footballer who can actually tell you the time when you should actually get to the gym.

“I try to go to the gym three times a week. Sometimes it’s two, but I try to go three times a week and keep my body fit.

“Because I love my food. So it goes hand in hand. You know, I can eat what I want, but I have to work out. That’s what I’m going to do as soon as I speak, after I speak to you, then I’ll be going downstairs to my gym.”

Leslie also revealed that her two-year-old grandson helps keep her young and fit also.

I’m spending a lot of time with my grandson, Lucas. I look after him on Tuesday, and I spend my time running around after him which is such fun.”

The actress spoke to us as she promoted this year’s Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

This year marks 30 years of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with headline sponsor Standard Life, part of Phoenix Group, following the inaugural event in the 90s – and the charity is celebrating its history with a little help from a selection of much-loved 90s stars including Leslie.

Leslie told us: “The thing is that there are so many different places you could do it, and you don’t have to run, you can walk, you can hop, you can walk your dog, you can chat with your mate, but just get involved. It’s just such for such a brilliant cause.”
