Multi-millionaire Barrie and his husband Scott built up a successful business empire with success from Chelmsford all the way over to Beverly Hills – and they have a history of investing in the right people.
With a “huge surprise” on the way in the episode – which airs on Sunday (May 21) on Channel 5, Ocean is truly put to to the test.
Barrie and his husband Scott learned a lot as they switched homes with Ocean, and speaking to Daily Star, he’s opened up about their new relationship and what happened after the show.
Speaking to Daily Star, Barrie said: “I grew up on a council estate 40 years ago, things have gone much worse since then.
“There are a lot of people out there right now that are suffering and there really is no help for them. I always had the mind set that if I can do it and get off the estate, so can anyone. I could never understand why people were trapped in the poverty trap – but now I get it.”
But Barrie had high hopes after his house swap with Ocean, and now he says they’ve remained close since filming.
He said: “They are like part of the family now. It was a life changing experience for us all.
“The whole family came over to Florida to our mansion in Tampa, they came to stay for a week in the sun and we spent the week chilling out and brainstorming our business idea.”
Barrie explained that he has been “humbled” by the experience after spending £59 per week for food shopping and living.
He said that others who don’t already have money “don’t stand a chance” and said he wants to do more to help people who need it.
Barrie added: “I’m so glad I have been able to help one family and that I will be able to support her starting her own business.”
Rich House, Poor House, airs on Channel 5 on Sunday at 9pm.
