Love Island fans given power as major twist is confirmed for opening episode

Love Island fans will once again get the chance to vote for the first couples of the series when the show launches next week.

It’s not the first time viewers have been able to vote for the opening couples, and their choices have been successful with Andrew Le Page and Tasha Ghouri still going strong after being put together by the public.

With the islanders about to be announced, viewers will then have a few days to decide who should be together as voting will open at 8am on Thursday (June 1).

Fans will be able to vote for free via the Love Island app, but they will only have until 9pm the following evening to have their say.

This voting system isn’t the only thing to have changed as earlier this year, show bosses announced a new social media policy.

Contestants have previously been allowed to let their loved ones operate their social media accounts.

But now, the use of social media whilst contestants are in the villa has been banned entirely.

The rules aim to “shield” contestants and their families from receiving abuse online.

Maya Jama is set to return and welcome a new bunch of hot singles into the villa.

Over the years, fans have begged producers to replace contestants with “normal people”.

Fans said they “accept” that influencers will be part of the line-up but enjoyed when farmer Will was introduced as a breath of fresh air.

So far, the daughter of a Coronation Street star has been speculated to join, alongside an entrepreneur and model.

Love Island have confirmed Ruchee Gurung as the first female contestant.

She is set to bring the “glam and big energy to the villa.”

The beautician has already proven to be popular with viewers, as fans praised ITV for including Asian representation on Instagram.

Speaking to ITV before entering the villa, she said: “I’m single and looking for love, and it’s the perfect opportunity for me to find someone.

ITV announced Ruchee as the first contestant

“I’m a relationship kind of girl, but so far it’s not worked out for me. So I’m looking forward to hopefully finding the right person in the Villa.”

Ruchee added: “I’m really caring, when I’m with someone I’m all about them.

“I’m also really loyal and love doing nice things for the people that are special to me. My love language is gift giving, so I’m a real giver when it comes to relationships.”
