Hollyoaks Gary Lucy’s life since exit – car crash horror, bitter split and return

Hollyoaks hunk Gary Lucy has been a popular staple on the Channel 4 soap for over 20 years.

The 41-year-old first stepped into the Chester village as Luke Morgan back in 1999 and was a favourite amongst viewers right up until 2022.

As fans will remember, he was tragically killed off in rather shocking scenes – with plenty of viewers left utterly devastated at the horrific end for the character.

And while his off-screen life isn’t as dramatic as that – it’s fair to say it’s not been short of disasters and dramas since his exit.

Just recently, the Essen-native split from Love Island babe Laura Anderson, who he met on Celebs Go Dating and who is currently pregnant with his child.

So as it officially turns one year since his character’s death on Monday (May 29), Daily Star is taking a deep divide inside the actor’s life since his dramatic exit.

Reality show stint

Gary has been a familiar face on TV screens for two decades – with him appearing in the likes of Footballers Wives, The Bill and of course, Hollyoaks.

But in 2022, Gary ventured out into the world of reality TV by appearing on the Channel 4 show Celebs Go Dating.

While on the hit programme, he struck up a relationship with Laura Anderson – and their romance went from strength-to-strength after the show ended.

And in February 2023, Laura announced that the pair were expecting their first child together, however they have since split up.

Car crash horror

Gary found himself involved in a horror car crash last year on Boxing Day.

The Hollyoaks actor took to his Instagram page, calling himself “Gary 9 lives” after his car appeared to be completely destroyed by the accident just one day after Christmas.

Gary, 41, shared a string of images of his wrecked Range Rover on what appeared to be a dual carriageway just hours after celebrating the festive period now ex-girlfriend, Laura.

In view of his 225k followers, Gary shared a picture which showed the front of his car completely crumpled up following the impact which resulted in the front and side airbags being released.

Captioning his post, he wrote: “Someone was watching over me today.”

A second image showed a close-up view of the car with the engine being smashed into pieces, before writing: “Gary 9 lives” on the snap.

Scottish beauty Laura rushed to the hospital to be at the side of her boyfriend as she took to social media, explaining he’s “always keeping her on her toes.

Laura later took to her Instagram Stories, sharing a video alongside Gary in the hospital as he was using crutches while explaining that he had been given morphine to deal with the pain from his injuries.

Bitter split

Following their whirlwind romance, in February, Laura revealed she had ended things with Gary.

Despite the heartbreak Gary, said he will “never stop loving” her and admitted he was “gutted” that Laura had ended their relationship.

Former EastEnders star Gary admitted he had fallen “head over heels” for the former Love Island contestant.

He has two sons and two daughters with his former wife, Natasha, and 33-year-old Laura became pregnant within a few months of them getting together

However, former The Bill star Gary did not want to move to Laura’s native Scotland and a series of rows led to her dumping him.

Gary told The Sun on Sunday: “It’s been really hard and I’m devastated it’s over romantically. I think the world of her.”

Gary, who was born and lives in Essex, added: “Laura did want me to move but I have my responsibilities here.

“I have four kids and all the things that go along with that so it’s very difficult, if not impossible, to uproot at this time.

Hollyoaks return

In May, it was reported Gary is making an epic comeback to Hollyoaks one year after his character was dramatically killed off the Channel 4 soap.

Loyal fans will remember the character met a gruesome end when he fell off a cliff last May, but that hasn’t stopped producers from finding a way to write him back into the script.

It is understood that the 41-year-old actor is back on set shooting some top-secret scenes where he will reprise his legendary role as Luke Morgan which is set to air later this summer.

According to The Sun, the fan-favourite character is set to appear in a number of flashback scenes with his onscreen girlfriend Cindy.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm
