Rock group The Hoosiers reveal secret link to late Superman icon Christopher Reeve

Rock group The Hoosiers have revealed an unknown link to late Superman icon Christopher Reeve in one of their music videos.

The group, known for their chart hits including Worried About Ray and Choices, are back on the road this summer as they prepare to play Back 2 Festival on Friday June 30, 2023.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star about Back 2 Festival, career and their upcoming album, The Hoosiers singer Irwin Sparkes revealed an unknown fact about their music video for their 2007 song Goodbye Mr A.

Inspired by comic book characters, the music video features a character called Mr A – who was played in the video by none other than Christopher Reeves’ stunt double from the Superman films.

Irwin explained: “We had a very good working relationship with the Diamond Dogs who we shot all those early videos with.

“Basically their pitches – when we were coming up for ideas for it – their main thing was ‘You get to fly on a wire’ and that’s all we needed to hear. The fact that we actually got to fly.”

He then revealed: “We’ve got Superman’s original stunt double, as in Christopher Reeves’ stunt double playing the part of Mr A. There’s a little scoop for you 15 years later!”

“His name is Donald, he’s a professional stunt man and actor. We just got lucky.”

Since the release of their debut album The Trick To Life in 2007, the group have released albums including The Illusion of Safety, Bumpy Ride and The News from Nowhere – with new album Confidence set to be released on September 15, 2023.

Speaking about the album, Irwin explained that a chat with former Bros bassist Craig Logan, who signed them to record label RCA back in the noughties, inspired them and that they cannot wait to share their new music with fans.

“It was a chat with Craig Logan who used to play bass in Bros – he originally signed up to RCA.

“We were chatting to him and he gave us a good pep talk about ‘you need to remind people of what you do and who you are’. It planted that seed and then we wrote this album in the quickest amount of time we’ve ever done it.”

He added: “We’ve got a UK tour that has just been announced and the album comes out on September 15. The tour happens just after that and we’re playing a load of festivals and we just cannot wait.”

One of these festivals includes Back 2, which will be held at Catton Park, Derbyshire between June 29th – July 2nd, 2023 and features a huge line-up including Example, Boyzlife, Blue, A1, Betty Boo, Dodgy, DJ Sammy, Ultrabeat and many more.

Asked about their set, Irwin compared it to another iconic Hollywood film series, saying: “What they [the fans] can expect is to step in a time machine that’s like the DeLorean – I’m talking it’s like a Back To The Future 2 version – it’s going to take you back to 2007.

“It’s like all three Back To The Futures in one, because then we’re going to go to the future and we’re going to show you what we’ve got in store.

“I know the festival is a little retro – we love playing our old songs – but we couldn’t be more excited about playing the new stuff, so we can’t wait to play what we’ve got coming on the new album.”

He continued: “It’s a great festival and I feel really honoured to be invited and get a ticket to the party.”

Back for the 7th year running, the UK’s most nostalgic festival, Back 2 Festival, is proud to announce the final lineup for this year’s throwback extravaganza. Superstar DJ Example and pop rock band The Hoosiers among others will join headline acts Boyzlife and Basshunter on Thursday 29th June – Sunday 2nd July 2023 for a riotous celebration of 00s finest in Catton Park in Derbyshire.

Tickets are currently still on sale at Back 2 Festival 2023 (ontick.co.uk) for £129.99 for a four night weekend ticket
