A guest on Antiques Roadshow was gobsmacked when he found out how much his family’s old incense burner was worth.
The classic episode of the BBC One antiques show saw expert Amin Jaffer shown a delicate incense burner by the guest.
The historic metal incense burner had been in owned by the guest’s family since the 1800s, the time of his great-grandparents.

The guest explained: “My great-grandparents immigrated from Iran to India and they were traders and merchants.”
His grandmother had previously inherited the item and used it until the late 1950s.
Amin revealed that the pierced holes in the metal object suggested that it was an incense burner used with flowers around it.
He explained that the incense used was likely frankincense and would be employed for religious occasions.
He said: “This was the way that we refreshed the air and also incense was used in so many religious rituals.”
On its origin, the expert revealed: “I think this is indeed late 19th Century made from a metal alloy using motifs that come from the 17th Century.”
Asked if he had any clue how much his family’s incense burner would be worth today, the guest admitted: “I have absolutely no idea because it’s been in the house for nearly 100 years!”
The expert then revealed he thought the item could rake in between £1,000 and £1,500 at auction.
And the guest was clearly taken aback at the value as he gasped: “Good heavens, that’s amazing.”
He was obviously impressed, too, given that he was sporting a large grin on his face.
However, it was clear that the guest wasn’t going to be flogging it anytime soon despite its impressive worth.
In fact, he had plans to pass it down to one of his three children, but he was yet to decide who to give it to.
