Margot Robbie was ‘one of the dudes’ and ‘rough and tumble’ on Wolf of Wall Street set

One of Margot Robbie’s Wolf of Wall Street co-stars has revealed what it’s really like to work with the Hollywood star.

Ethan Suplee – perhaps most famous for his role as Randy Hickey on US sitcom My Name is Earl – has starred alongside Margot in several projects, including The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio.

He played Toby Welch in the 2013 movie, before starring as Wilson in 2022’s Babylon opposite Margot’s Nellie LaRoy.

And he’s now opened up to Daily Star about what it was like to work with the Barbie star.

Ethan said it was “amazing” to be on set with Margot.

He said: “The first time I worked with her, she certainly wasn’t as famous as she is now.

“I think that for a lot of women in Hollywood, there can be an attempt to really protect an image and create an image that might not necessarily be 100% truthful. That’s okay – we’re all kind of creating what our images are. But Margot Robbie was like hanging out with a dude.

“She was just super cool, and she was happy to go eat at a bar. She was rough and tumble and just super cool and down to earth.

“It was surprising, because I also have daughters and I know there’s some feminine squirminess about hanging out with guys, and here’s Margot on set with a lot of dudes.”

The star added: “Wolf of Wall Street was predominantly dudes; it was a dude heavy film with dudey substance. And she was just cool and came on set, fit in with everyone and hung out. I think that’s just her, because she’s still very down to earth and cool.”

Ethan, who has appeared in everything from The Butterfly Effect to Dog alongside Channing Tatum, has developed a nose for which of his movies fans have watched when they recognise him.

“I don’t want to group people together but there can be some distinct patterns amongst people and I can get this vibe [from them],” he said.

“There are distinctly people who love The Butterfly Effect and I’ll be like, ‘Yes, you appear to me to be one of the people that would love The Butterfly Effect and I’m glad, I think it’s quite a good movie too.’

And then there are some people who I think didn’t really understand the message of what American History X is all about, and they love it – and I just want to say, ‘That movie is about anti-racism. We weren’t celebrating what maybe you’re excited about’.

“Those are the oddest encounters, when someone is particularly obsessed with a movie when I’m not totally sure they got the message of what it was about.”
