However, unfortunately, the medical procedure caused damage to his liver which is irreversible.
The much-loved TV presenter, who recently revealed he is yet to tell his three young sons about his cancer, announced last year how he is unsure how long he has left to live, following the cancer spreading to his brain.
Discussing his health in a new interview, Jonnie spoke about his cancer battle and updated fans on how he is dealing with it all.
Jonnie told HELLO! Magazine: “I remove myself on a number of occasions because I’m not good to be around when I’m in pain.
“I’m like a bear with a sore head and I don’t want them to be around that.”
The father-of-three added: “It can happen at any time. I’m here to stop it for as long as possible.”
Jonnie went public with the heartbreaking announcement of his terminal diagnosis last year to get the “monkey off my back”.
Whilst filming a TV project in Italy, Jonnie noticed something was wrong with his health.
In August 2020, he suffered blurry vision when he was driving and tests later confirmed he had developed lung cancer, which had sadly already spread to his brain.
Jonnie shares children with his wife Jessica Holmes, Rex, three, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.
He tied the knot with Jessica back in September 2016.
Earlier this week, Jonnie shared a sweet snap of him with his boys for Father’s Day.
He wrote: “‘Father’s Day means even more to me this year. Full shoot in Hello! magazine, link in bio for my interview and video’ #fathersday”
Fans commented underneath, with one writing: “Perfect, once a dad always a dad, you are and always will be their hero”
While another wrote: “Cheeky rascals! All four of you. Honestly, this photo has got me… I’m not crying, just got something in my eye. Love you all xxx”
