Eamonn Holmes hits back as fan slams him over ‘persecution’ of Phillip Schofield

Former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes has defended himself after he was called out for his ongoing criticism of shamed Phillip Schofield.

Eamonn, who now presents a breakfast show on GB News alongside Isabel Webster, has been scathing in his criticism of Phillip and of the ITV bosses who, he claims, covered up the scandal at the broadcaster.

Phillip was forced to quit ITV last month after it emerged that he’d had an affair with a young runner at This Morning, and had then lied about it to his colleagues.

Eamonn used to present This Morning alongside his wife Ruth Langsford, and he’s been taking aim at Phillip since then, including calling him “toxic”.

But he’s now come under fire himself following an Instagram post that was supposed to celebrate his breakfast show being nominated at the National Reality TV Awards.

Eamonn wrote: “Let’s face it, it doesn’t get more real than us. Your support for Isabel and me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.”

But one follower, Sue, replied: “I’m really disappointed too in the recent behaviour and unnecessary comments. Contributing to the persecution of another person, I don’t feel a vote is really deserved at the minute. Shame for Isabelle [sic] though.”

Eamonn replied: “Sue, I’m sorry you have difficulty in understanding who was persecuted.”

The post appears to have been deleted since then, but Sue wasn’t the only one to have a pop at Eamonn.

Another user wrote: “You’ve got to be joking, I rather vote for Phil than you, you are a bully!!”

Another said: “If as he says he’s so good then why is he begging for votes! Ealmon you’ve gone down hugely in my esteem, especially about your attacks on a fellow presenter.”

And a third Instagram post added: “Disappointed in how Eamon Holmes has been so vitriolic recently.”

But Eamonn has so far refused to pull his punches over the scandal.

Last week he asked people to get in touch if they had “kissed Phillip Schofield”.

He told his viewers: “I put it to anyone watching today that if you have kissed Phillip Schofield let us know. Let us see if that figure of one grows to the figure that I believe it is probably at.

“He’s admitted he is a liar. You should see the emails, the texts and the messages I’ve been sent over the past week. I think he’s getting off very, very lucky.”

He added: “Like everybody else he lied to me, I was happy to stand by him until I found out that he was lying… This isn’t about him being gay, not in the slightest.”

The scandal has also cost Phillip his friendship with former co-host Holly Willoughby.
