Glastonbury fans say Rick Astley should be knighted as he wows on Pyramid Stage

Rick Astley fans have joked that he needs a knighthood after he “won Glastonbury” with a storming performance.

The pop star took to the stage on Saturday (24 June), for his first performance at the festival in Somerset, and served up a blistering set that included his hit Never Gonna Give You Up.

He also went onstage with indie group Blossoms, singing songs by The Smiths.

Rick, 57, told the crowd that playing the famous festival was a “dream” for him – and it seems fans felt the same way about his dazzling performance.

Many flocked to Twitter as he took to the stage to say how much they were loving it, with one saying that he was “astonishingly good”.

“This Rick Astley set is peak music,” said another, while one called his set “epic”.

“There is always one surprise every #Glastonbury and it’s Rick Astley this year,” said another.

“He has a fabulous voice, is self-deprecating, the crowd love him.”

“Rick Astley is the KING of #Glasto right now… bloody legend,” said another.

“This is the best thing I’ve ever watched in my entire life,” gushed another fan.

Somebody else posted: “Rick Astley singing all of The Smiths repertoire is just everything I didn’t know I needed in my life. It’s bloody fantastic! Totally winning Glastonbury right now.”

“Blown away by it guys,” said somebody else.

“Thought I’d hate it but loved it. You’ve converted me.”

“I’m now a Rick Astley superfan,” someone else chimed in.

By the time he left the stage, fans were saying Rick had “won” Glasto.

“Rick Astley has literally stolen the show today,” tweeted one.

One particularly impressed admirer urged the Royal Family: “Just give Rick Astley a knighthood.”

Another person agreed: “If this weekend has proven anything, it’s that Rick Astley deserves a knighthood.”
