BBC’s highest paid male presenters as Gary Lineker brings in over £1.4m per year

Gary Lineker is the perfect example of a sports star who has carved out a successful TV career – becoming the BBC’s top earning male presenter.

The 62-year-old shot to fame as a footballer but is now just as well known for shows like Match Of The Day.

And last year when the corporation published the salaries of its highest-paid stars as part of its annual report, he was at the top of the list.

Fellow football star Alan Shearer and radio star Steve Wright were in joint second, with earnings of £450,000-£454,999.

Hot on their heels was radio presenter Stephen Nolan, who raked in £415,000-£419,999 thanks to jobs like The Nolan Show on Radio Ulster.

Huw Edwards was another big hitter, coming fifth in the list of highest paid BBC male presenters.

The 61-year-old Welsh journalist had a salary in the range of £410,000-£414,999 thanks to the News at Six and News at Ten and other news programmes.

Radio star Scott Mills came next, with £400,000-£404,999, and he was followed by Greg James on £390,000-£394,999.

Radio legend Ken Bruce had a salary in the range of £385,000-£389,999.

The 72-year-old made the list because of programmes like Radio 2’s mid morning show, the Eurovision Song Contest and PopMaster Special.

However, Ken has since stepped down from Radio 2 after 31 years with the BBC and at the beginning of April this year the star made his debut on Greatest Hits Radio.

Newsreader George Alagiah, who is battling bowel cancer, was ninth in the list with a salary of £325,000 – £329,999.

Amol Rajan, who was the journalist who interview Phillip Schofield amid his This Morning controversy rounded out the top 10 with the tidy sum of £325,000 – £329,999.

The list doesn’t include stars of shows which are made by commercial arm BBC Studio.
