During his absence from the TV channel, the Daily Star has examined his net worth and annual salary.

According to Idolnetworth, Huw’s estimated worth is £2.4 million, earning a yearly salary of £429,999, and also engages in outside work, earning £10,000 for a single event in 2021.

Apart from the BBC, Huw works as an awards host for Business Matters, a magazine for entrepreneurs, and for Bauer Media, UMAL, and the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Huw joined the BBC in 1984 and has risen through the ranks, primarily known for his roles as the chief presenter on News at One, Six, and Ten. Over his extensive career, he has covered major news events, such as the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

However, his current on-air presence has been paused due to the recent allegations.

His wife Vicky Flind has now confirmed that Huw is “in hospital” after the accusations came to light, being treated for “severe depression”.

Her statement read: “In light of the recent reporting regarding the ‘BBC Presenter’ I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family.

“I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children.

“Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years.”

The BBC became aware of a complaint in May, and additional allegations of a different nature were brought to their attention on Thursday (July 6).

The mother of the young person who is alleged to have received the payments claimed Huw had paid the teenager more than £35,000 over three years for the images.

The mother told The Sun that the teenager had used the cash to fund a crack cocaine habit.

She revealed: “When I see him on telly, I feel sick.

“I blame this BBC man for destroying my child’s life.

“Taking my child’s innocence and handing over the money for crack cocaine that could kill my child.”
