The new Insidious movie has a very subtle detail that most people miss – but it’s by far the scariest part of the film.
Insidious: The Red Door was recently released in cinemas, with most of the original cast reprising their roles in the Lambert family, including Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Ty Simpkins.
As far as the plot goes, dad Josh and Dalton have been hypnotised to forget their experience of astral projecting into The Further, but it all falls apart when Dalton moves away to college.

Forced to confront his horrifying past – and finally discover what lies beyond the red door – things quickly get frightening, while Josh is stuck at home, divorced, and battling his own demons.
And that terrifying detail? It’s a very easy one to miss.
When the movie opens with the Lambert family saying a final goodbye to Josh’s mom at her funeral, the dad-of-three heads for his car, where he exchanges texts with his son.
But only the detail oriented horror fan will notice a very blurred figure approaching the car through the back window – totally unnoticed by Josh.
The figure, clad in orange, gets bigger and bigger but remains pixelated, and is never quite in focus on camera, meaning it’s very easy to miss.
There’s no big jump-scare after this moment, which makes it even more missable – Josh simply obscures the figure with his head momentarily, and when he moves, it’s gone.
The same thing happens later on. Convinced he’s losing his memory, Josh tries a card matching game by taping up photos of his family to the window and lifting them as he tries to remember which card is where.
But through the panes of the window, the same orange-clad figure approaches, still out of focus, getting closer and closer.
Eventually, the figure disappears once more – and that’s when things get pretty terrifying.

We promise, the reason for the figure’s appearance all makes sense by the end of the movie, so it’s worth watching out for. But it’s definitely one of the most eerie parts because you only realise it’s there if you’re scouring the screen for details – rather than hiding behind your popcorn.
It’s pretty similar to a shot from the original Insidious movie, which sees Dalton in bed – ostensibly in a coma – while a dark, demon-like figure lurks in the shadows.
With all the light on Dalton, it’s easy to focus on him rather than the silhouette.
But just because you don’t see the demon doesn’t mean it isn’t there…
