Emmerdale hit with complaints by angry viewers over Mary’s blackmail storyline

Emmerdale fans were not too happy over the latest drama in Mary’s blackmail storyline on the ITV soap.

As viewers will know, the retired journalist, played by actress Louise Jameson, was recently contacted by her scheming ex girlfriend Faye.

The pair’s relationship got off to a brilliant start – but it didn’t end well when Mary realised her missus was a con artist.

Mary thought she’d never see Faye again after she left the famous village, however during Monday’s episode (July 17) she made a return.

Up to her usual scheming ways, Faye told Mary that she would send a naked picture of her to everyone in her phone book – unless she withdrew her statement.

Mary is being blackmailed by Faye

And on Tuesday’s episode (July 18) more drama unfolded as Faye amped up the ante – demanding Mary to make her decision within 24 hours.

But viewers watching the show at home were left fuming as to why Mary didn’t just go to the police.

“Right Mary, just go to the police, tell them what Faye’s doing & end it ffs!” raged one person on Twitter.

Fans were not happy with the way things were panning out

Another added: “Why does no one call the police in Emmerdale when they’re being blackmailed.. if it was me i’d say go ahead and post the picture, you took my good side.”

A third quipped: “Why would Mary even entertain this crap, she has proof of the blackmail attempt, just go to the police.”

Someone else chimed in and penned: “Really don’t understand why Mary doesn’t just go to the police.

Elsewhere in the episode, Mary came to clean to Rhona Goskirk about the ordeal – to which she reassured her that they will get through it.

Louise Jameson – who plays Mary – previously revealed how important it was to raise awareness of scammers.

She told The Mirror: “I think it’s incredibly important, especially for people my age who are terrified of appearing foolish. The scammers are amazingly clever and sophisticated in the way they go about emptying people’s bank balances. When I turned 70, it was extraordinary — it was like some algorithm had been alerted and ever since then, I would say at least twice a week I get a text, phone call or email offering me something at a ridiculously cheap price, or messages claiming they’re an alert from my bank.”
