Dan Wootton breaks silence on allegations and claims ex launched ‘smear campaign’

Dan Wootton has responded to allegations of inappropriate behaviour to viewers on Tuesday’s episode of his show on GB News.

The presenter said he felt targeted by an ex-partner determined to “destroy my life.”

Wootton said he decided to open the “gates of hell” on his own life by addressing the allegations circulating on social media.

In a statement, he said: “I have made errors of judgement in the past but the criminal allegations which have been made against me are simply untrue.

“I have been thinking much over the last few days about the current state of social media where any allegation can be made in an attempt to get someone cancelled.

“It is impossible to defend yourself against thousands of trolls, with that said I am coming on air tonight with a lot of humility too.

“I think being in the middle of this witch hunt has made me think a lot about the kind of journalist and broadcaster I aspire to be.”

He added: “I should be focused on the massive political threats facing this country not on personal attacks.”

Wootton stated he had regrets but questioned if he should be “cancelled” for them adding: “Do you accept that I have learned and changed?”

He told GB News viewers he could spend the next two hours speaking about the claims made against him, adding: “But on the advice of my lawyers, I cannot comment further.”

It is alleged that Wootton offered colleagues sums of money in return for sexual material.

Last week, Wootton’s ex-boyfriend, Alex Truby, claimed that Wootton, adopting the pseudonym Martin Branning, made financial offers to individuals to capture themselves engaging in intimate acts on camera.

The claims surfaced after Truby reportedly gained access to Wootton’s hard drive back in 2013.

Byline Times recently published a bombshell report, unveiling an anonymous yet “trusted former colleague” of the GB News anchor, who came forward to expose Wootton’s alleged use of the infamous Branning name.

Many of the allegations relate to the time when Wootton was employed by The Sun, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News UK.

A spokesperson for News UK said: “We re looking into the allegations made in recent days. We are not able to make any further comment at this stage.”

And a spokesperson for Mail owners DMG Media said: “We are aware of the allegations and are looking into them.”
