George Michael could ‘return’ to touring seven years after death – as hologram

George Michael could go on tour seven years after his death – as a hologram.

His best pal and Wham! bandmate Shirlie Kemp has suggested the idea.

And she has been backed by fellow backing singer Pepsi [Helen ‘Pepsi’ DeMacque-Crockett], who is also up for it.

Shirlie, 61, said: “Maybe there could be a Wham! hologram show like ABBA’s.”

Tragic George was just 53 when he died on Christmas Day in 2016, leaving millions of fans devastated.

His last ever solo show was in 2012, but as Wham! with Andrew Ridgeley and the girls they last performed in 1986 – 37 years ago.

At the time they held an epic farewell show at Wembley Stadium called The Final with special guests like Sir Elton John and Simon Le Bon.

Last year ABBA staged their first gig in 42 years in hologram form at a purpose-built venue in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

It was such a huge hit that the ABBA Voyage virtual concert residency will run there until November, completing an 18-month stint.

The performance features avatars – dubbed ‘ABBAtars’ – of the Swedish pop stars as they appeared in their pomp in 1979.

Pepsi, 64, told Classic Pop that she was fully behind Shirlie’s plan and is excited at the thought of a Wham! comeback with George.

She gushed: “That’d be amazing! Our routines would evolve into being really slick.“Those holograms? They would be really on it.”

George’s best pal and Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley also supported the idea during a chat with the BBC.

Asked about a Wham! hologram tour on Newsnight, he said: “My thinking would be, ‘Fantastic!’ To have Wham! At its pomp, playing live.”

He added: “Of course, there are ethical questions. And that decision would be a mutual decision between myself and [George Michael’s] estate, should it ever come to it.

“And I can’t speak for them, I don’t know how they would feel about it. But I think it could be done, and I think it could be done exceptionally well.

“I’d pay to go and see it!”
