The One Show’s Alex Jones shocked by star’s brutal dig at Jermaine Jenas’ career

The One Show’s Alex Jones was shocked during Friday’s (July 21) installment of the BBC show when a guest made a brutal dig at the football career of her co-host, Jermaine Jenas.

Alex and Jermaine were joined by guests Molly Rainford and comedian Rob Beckett, with the latter taking aim during a segment on acting.

After Rob finished promoting the new series of his Rob & Romesh Vs… show, where he stars alongside friend and fellow comic Romesh Ranganathan, they discussed Molly’s role in EastEnders.

The show then aired one of Molly’s recent scenes in the BBC soap, prompting Jermaine to quip: “On this Rob, I found out something today. You auditioned for The Crown didn’t you?”

Rob sarcastically hit back: “Yeah I didn’t get it but I auditioned for it. Thanks for bringing it up.”

He then suggested Jermaine had a rater unimpressive football career when he asked him: “Shall we go through the teams you didn’t sign for?”

It immediately sparked a number of “oohs” within the studio, with Alex looking floored by the joke, suggesting she thought it might have been a bit too harsh.

Jermaine responded “Arsenal being one of them” – a nod towards his career in which he spent eight-years playing for Arsenal’s bitter rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

24 hours earlier, meanwhile, co-host Alex threatened to halt filming of the show after the confession of a guest reduced the studio to silence.

Alex and Roman Kemp were joined on the sofas by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge and comedian Adam Hills.

It was the latter whose comments stunned the pair, meanwhile, during a debate about the best flavour of ice cream.

After Roman read out a tweet from a viewer who declared coffee flavour to be the best, The Last Leg star Adam duly agreed before adding the bizarre stipulation that it couldn’t be from an ice cream van.

With Alex and Roman confused, Adam asked: “Can I admit something?”

“Go on, an intrigued Alex responded.

“I don’t like soft serve…” continued Adam, resulting in Tom questioning, “What… how?”

With Roman looking dumbfounded too, Adam repeated his stance, before Alex interjected: “Adam, we are going to have to finish the programme that’s too much.”

The One Show continues weekdays on BBC One at 7pm.
