BBC Breakfast fans hail Naga Munchetty for raising awareness for painful illness

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty has received praise and thanks from her adoring fans as she continues to raise awareness with regards to her debilitating health condition.

The 48-year-old broadcaster first opened up about her cripplingly painful illness back in May as she confirmed she was a sufferer of adenomyosis.

At the time, the news correspondent informed her followers that she’d been left in so much agony with the condition on occasions that she had in the past been close to phoning for an ambulance.

The TV personality has now revealed that she is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that more information is made available about the illness – with particular focus on the NHS England’s website to be updated.

Taking to Twitter to update on the situation and share a link to the governments Women’s Health Strategy website, Naga penned: “At last! Adenomyosis is given attention on the NHS England website.”

Adenomyosis isn’t life-threatening and to the unknown eye, most wouldn’t even be able to detect those who suffer internally on a day-to-day basis with the condition.

Symptoms cause the lining of the womb (the endometrium) to bury into the muscular wall of the womb – either effecting the entire womb or just part of it.

The painful nature of disorder can be really problematic for anyone living with the illness.

Sadly for Naga, she has agonised in silence for years with the condition but decided to open up about her health battle earlier this year while vowing to speak more about it on her regular BBC 5 Live programme.

She said: “We’ll talk about this more on @BBC5live with Health Minister Maria Caulfield on Monday at 11.00.”

Following the update, elated fans gushed beneath the post, hailing and thanking the star for “putting her head above the parapet”.

One relieved person added: “Finally!! Well done @TVNaga01 for highlighting #adenomyosis.”

A second also chimed: “It’s about time! Thank you @TVNaga01 for your advocacy and for putting your head above the parapet!”

Back in May, Naga decided to open up about her condition, telling Radio 5 Live listeners there had been a time where she even had to leave the BBC Breakfast because the pain had been unbearable.

Speaking on her radio show, she said: “Right now as I sit here talking to you: I am in pain. Constant, nagging pain.

“In my uterus. Around my pelvis. Sometimes it runs down my thighs. And I’ll have some level of pain for the entire show and for the rest of the day until I go to sleep.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 6am
