New horror film is ‘scariest thing since The Exorcist’ as fans horrified by twist

A new horror film has been branded the “scariest thing since The Exorcist”, way back in 1973.

Audiences at the time were left covering their eyes and even fleeing from the cinema after a certain projectile vomiting scene.

But now, new release Talk To Me threatens to scare viewers so much they’ll be desperate to leave their seats and seek a safe haven elsewhere.

The film follows a group of teenagers who discover a mummified hand that allows them to communicate with the dead, and Mia – played by Sophie Wilde – gets more than a little obsessed.

The film is a smart twist on the classic demonic possession movie, with smartphones at hand to film the interactions from beyond the grave.

According to WhyNow’s review of the film, it also delivers a “surprising emotional warmth”, with its central cast “funny and melodramatic”.

The review concludes: “It captures the zeitgeist of the 2020s just as well as clearly as The Exorcist saw the 1970s 50 years ago. It’s hard to give higher praise than that.”

fans have also been reacting to the new film, with one Twitter user penning: “I went to a ‘mystery screening’ of what turned out to be the upcoming horror film Talk To Me last night.

“Really nasty and nifty with some great characters and just really nicely done across the board. The third act did contribute to an ongoing trend in recent horror movies…”

One reviewer said they “simply had to cover [their] eyes” and “couldn’t watch” the whole movie, adding: “Instead leaving my brain to decipher the action via the sound of crunching bones and agonising yelps”.

Danny Philippou, who co-wrote the script with Bill Hinzman, had a very unique way of describing the flick, explaining: “The film was expressing all the things I couldn’t express on YouTube.

“On YouTube, it’s specific content for a specific audience, and it couldn’t be personal. So the whole film is a big, personal, therapeutic poo of a film.”
